Where to stay on Mersea Island
West Mersea suits harbour and beach stays; East Mersea has rural sites and quieter coastal surroundings. Choose a base before searching for accommodation.
West Mersea
Good for visitors who want the High Street, the harbour and the beach within walking or short driving distance. The exact address matters: beach and harbour areas are not the same part of town.
East Mersea
Best for Cudmore Grove, birdwatching and a rural break. You may need a car or a carefully planned journey to reach West Mersea’s shops and waterfront.
Types of accommodation
Check whether your stay includes parking, whether pets are allowed and how far the accommodation is from buses or amenities. Campsites and holiday parks may operate seasonally. Everyone using the road onto the island should check the Strood before travelling.
For a visit with mobility or access requirements, check the actual parking space, entrance, step-free route and bathroom with the accommodation provider. Nearby seafront paths and the rural East Mersea coast are not equivalent. See accessible visits to Mersea for public facilities.
