The Glebe is home to cricket, tennis and rugby, while the island's other clubs meet on Yorick Road, Colchester Road, around Coast Road and at the community centre.

Sport at the Glebe

Mersea Island RFC fields senior and youth teams and publishes its fixtures and training information. West Mersea Tennis Club has floodlit all-weather courts and grass courts in summer, alongside seasonal croquet. Visitors can book tennis courts through the club's booking system.

A pump track for cycling is mapped near The Glebe, northeast of the tennis courts. It is separate from the sports club pitches and courts.

Bowls clubs

Two separate clubs operate in West Mersea. Mersea Island Bowling Club has its green on Yorick Road and runs outdoor bowls during the warmer months. West Mersea Bowls Club is on Colchester Road, offering indoor bowls all year and outdoor bowls in season. Each club publishes its own arrangements for members and visitors.

Rowing and paddlesports

Mersea Island Rowing Club organises coastal rowing. For sailing, racing and shore-based ways to get on the water, see the sailing and watersports guide.

Indoor and social activities

Mersea Bridge Club meets at the Royal British Legion premises on Barfield Road. Other activities, including exercise classes, dance and squash, are listed by West Mersea Town Council.

For coastal sport, check the tide, wind and water conditions before setting out. Club schedules and visitor access can change, so use the direct club links for current arrangements.
