The council's current parking list

West Mersea Town Council lists five public parking areas: Coast Road, High Street, Willoughby, Victoria Esplanade and Seaview. Burma Road is privately owned and is available to the public only during the height of summer; do not rely on it outside that period.

Coast RoadBest placed for the harbour and seafood waterfront; limited and very busy at peak times. Postcode: CO5 8PB.
High StreetGood for the town centre and for walking towards Coast Road. Postcode: CO5 8QA.
WilloughbyNear the beach; the council says it may close when the ground is waterlogged. Postcode: CO5 8BH.
Victoria EsplanadeSeafront parking close to beach, cafés and toilets; can fill on peak days. Postcode: CO5 8XB.
SeaviewAnother seafront option near the beach area. Postcode: CO5 8BX.

Coast Road: convenient, not guaranteed

If your whole plan revolves around the harbour, Coast Road looks obvious on a map. The council warns, however, that the area becomes very busy and has limited parking. Their advice is to consider High Street or Willoughby and walk in.

Paying

MiPermit is available in Town Council-owned car parks. The council also lists contactless card payments at Willoughby and Victoria Esplanade. Check the signs on arrival for charges, restrictions and the payment method at that particular location.

Parking information checked against West Mersea Town Council on 13 October 2026.

For the beach

Willoughby, Victoria Esplanade and Seaview are the most naturally placed for the beach. On a hot day, arrive expecting them to be popular rather than expecting the final space next to your chosen beach hut.

On busy summer days, leaving the car in a larger car park and walking can be quicker than circling near the waterfront.

Parking at Cudmore Grove, East Mersea

Cudmore Grove Country Park has a paid car park on Broman’s Lane, CO5 8UE, managed by Essex County Council rather than West Mersea Town Council. It opens at 8am and closes at dusk. Explore Essex lists card/contactless and MiPermit payment options, as well as the current parking charges and closing times. Its published charges from 1 June 2026 are £3.15 for up to one hour, £4.40 for two hours, £5.50 for four hours and £6.55 for a day. The independent AccessAble guide records Blue Badge bays but says parking is not free for Blue Badge holders.
