The 2026 ferry season has finished
The Brightlingsea Harbour 2026 ferry calendar runs from spring to September, with its published service ending on 20 September 2026. Do not plan an October crossing using a summer timetable. Check the harbour’s website for the next season and any special sailings.
Booking and frequency
The operator uses low-, mid- and high-season timetables. In low season, online booking is essential and the service may not operate without a reservation; in mid and high season, people with bookings have priority. Do not assume that arriving at the landing guarantees a place.
Bicycles, children and dogs
Wheelchairs and accessible boarding
Brightlingsea Harbour says its purpose-built ferry has a ramp for wheelchair users as well as cyclists and pedestrians. Check with the harbour operator before relying on a crossing: the suitability of the boarding point, tide and equipment matters for an individual journey. The published ramp information does not establish that every approach path or onward route is step-free.
The published 2026 leaflet allows bicycles, pushchairs and dogs and sets separate fares for adults, children and bikes. Check current capacity and booking details if travelling in a group or with bulky equipment.
East Mersea landing and onward travel
The East Mersea landing is close to the eastern side of the island. It is not a shuttle to the West Mersea High Street or harbour. Check the footpath from the landing to your destination, particularly if you need step-free access or are travelling with luggage; the operator publishes landing directions and season information.
Plan a fallback
For a day trip, confirm the final return sailing before setting out. A cancelled ferry can mean a long journey around the Colne by road, not a short walk to another bridge.
