Dabchicks Sailing Club
Dabchicks Sailing Club was founded in 1911 and operates from Coast Road, West Mersea. Its dinghy and keelboat racing takes place on the River Blackwater.
Early sailing and racing
Surviving records include a prize presentation at the White Hart in November 1947 and the club’s laying-up supper in October 1948. Among the boats listed in those programmes were DABCHICK, WHITE HART, LANINA, STEADY BARKER and STORMCOCK. The club celebrated its centenary in 2011.
In August 2014 the club hosted the British OK Dinghy National Championship, for the fourth time in roughly twenty years. 2014 championship account
