Mersea Island circuit — planning notes
Planning notes, not a navigation file. The published full circuit is about 13 miles / 21 km, but this sheet is not a surveyed route description. Do not use old straight-line waypoint files as a navigable track.
Suggested approach
- Begin from an accessible West Mersea location and locate the official England Coast Path waymarks.
- Plan the north-coast, eastern and south-coast sections using a current walking map.
- Allow for temporary diversions, coastal erosion, exposed paths and mud.
- Check the Strood crossing if travelling to or from the mainland.
Before leaving
Follow signed public paths and current closures. Check weather, water levels and erosion notices. For longer walks use the Essex rights of way map; the Mersea stretch of the England Coast Path is open.
